Thoughts of the day…

Some things that we know, we just know.  It is because we assume that they must be common sense, that we don’t take the time to make sure we have the words available to explain our thoughts.  It is because we’ve never thought through them deeply enough, that we don’t have a logical progression of ideas to back up our conclusions.  It is because we are unprepared that we are not taken seriously.  I know when David and Sarah started this site that is what they had in mind.  Provide a place where we can exercise our right to education, to discussion, to critically think about issues and decide for ourselves what we believe.

I choose the word believe for a reason.  This proces can be a powerful tool to help us take our ideas from thoughts to beliefs.  This needs to happen if action is to begin.  I never actually get up to close the windows cause I “think” it might rain (because I heard there’s a chance) as quickly as I do when I “believe” its going to rain (because I hear the drops falling!).

I know that things started out strong some months ago with great content, much of it generated by David and Sarah… then fizzled off to nothing now.  I find myself still opening my email wondering if there will be an engaging post to read and ponder.  I am disappointed for a moment before i move on to other pressing business as a father of 3.5 and owner of a new and growing business, yet I never make the time to contribute anything  myself!

With this in mind I want to challenge other members to take a few minutes to post their thoughts.  Lets make of this what it was meant to be a bit more fully each month.  Out of the 20+ members here i only know a few, but I care about what you all think.  I also care about the people you will expose and engage if you become involved.  It seems daunting because some that have written before have such a gift for writing and organizing… it may make the rest of us feel like our contributions would be lacking.  That’s not the case though, and we need to not let that be an excuse to not share!

This being said i would like to start an open discussion on the merits of Nelson Mandela vs. Robin Hood.  I had a chance (being in Canada) to have a great discussion when one of my customers said “not everything about communism was bad, they just never did it right!”  As I have pondered our discussion over the last few days I have really had a chance to think about what ideas could I have used to better illustrate my point, and not just be the “American” talking to the “Canadian”.  The examples of thee two “protagonists” and their motivations have given me good solid ground for future conversation, but I want to hear what you all have to say as you think about their stories.
