Many Americans have valuable opinions and ideas for shaping our country, and these need to be shared. LibertyDiscussions.com is an online network that encourages people to meet face-to-face in local discussion groups and share their opinions.
The mission of Liberty Discussions is:
- to facilitate a fundamental shift in American culture, with the goal of aligning more closely with the intents of the Founders
- to acknowledge the moral foundation of liberty
- to restore federalism by asserting the sovereignty of the people, strengthening municipal institutions, and applying the principles of republican government as defined by the Constitution
- to educate self, family and community on the principles of liberty
- to encourage citizens to become independent and self-reliant in their thinking and living
- to provide tools and opportunities for individuals to become effective leaders
- to help citizens find solutions and common ground through open-minded debate and face-to-face interaction
- to encourage people to research, document and report on the events around them, thereby becoming effective citizen journalists and co-creators of honest and informative media.
This website is an open forum, but there are a few guiding principles and rules that should be observed. Members whose behavior is not consistent with the mission of the site will be deleted.
Principles over politics. Members of Liberty Discussions come from all walks of life hold a wide variety of opinions. This website does not endorse any particular party or candidate. We encourage people to discuss the issues and try to reach a consensus.
Real human interaction. Many people behave differently in online environments than they do in real life. Some online social networks encourage people to have a second life through anonymity. This website has the opposite approach. We encourage people to use this online network as a way to facilitate real interaction, especially face-to-face meetings. We also encourage discussion groups to use online video or audio (including live streaming technology) whenever possible so that people in other locations can also participate in the discussion.
Community-based. When you sign up for this network, you are encouraged to join a local community group. If there is not a group in your area, you can start your own. Groups must be based on a geographic area (ie city, state) and cannot be formed on the basis of any particular interest. In other words, you can’t start a group called Columbus Ohio Republicans. It must simply be called Columbus, Ohio. The idea is to encourage people to have discussions with any concerned citizen, no matter what their beliefs are.
Start with an open question and look at all sides of the issue. Every meeting should follow this basic rule. Please read our guidelines for suggestions on how to conduct meetings.
True grassroots. We believe that the best approach to political change is from the bottom up. Citizens can use this website as a tool for networking locally and then expanding their influence across the country.
Encourage leadership. There are potential leaders all around us. Local discussion groups can provide an opportunity for quality leaders to emerge and gain experience directing others.
Group education. Discussion groups help us to learn from each other. We should use these groups to share concepts we have learned and to increase our knowledge on important subjects.
